Reader’s Letter: there’s no excuse for hate speech against autistic people

Reader’s Letter: there’s no excuse for hate speech against autistic people

Since Andrew Tate made THAT tweet and got burned by Greta Thunberg big time I’ve seen a massive increase in really nasty vitriol towards #actuallyautistic people.

It’s almost like non-autistic people think we can’t read or don’t have feelings and can’t be hurt by the stuff they’re saying.

We’re  autistic, not stupid. Sure some autistic people can’t read, but then loads of non-autistic people can’t read.

We are not emotionally void idiots.

We hurt like you.

We bleed like you.

Yes we are different in someways (and that differs massively from one autistic person to the next) but one thing that is the same for all of us is the length of time it can take us to recover from mental and physical exhaustion.

Most of the time I avoid all the nasty things people say about autistic people, but it’s been really difficult this time.

Really difficult.

Be kind.

And then be kinder.

Thank you if you read this far.

Best wishes,

Kristianne Drake
