Southampton Seed Swap returns to The Art House on March 12

Are the lengthening days, green shoots and bright daffodils inspiring you to get out gardening? If so, you’re in luck – it’s almost time for this year’s Southampton Seed Swap.

The 2023 event will be held on Sunday, March 12 at The Art House in Above Bar Street from 11am to 3pm.

It will include the opportunity to buy and swap seeds and to buy plants.

Organiser Ziggy Woodward said: “Southampton Seed Swap, is for me, the start of my gardening year, now that the wonderful Hampshire Potato Days are no longer running.

This year we have been gifted, once again with a lovely bounty of heritage and heirloom seeds from The Heritage Seed Library, and I am please to announce that Yvonne’s Plants will be there with her stall stuffed with gorgeous, verdant loveliness.

“The basic idea of a seed swap is to bring – veg, herb, flower or fruit seeds – that you don’t want and exchange – packet for packet – with something you don’t have or just fancy the look of. Seeds are available for a donation if you don’t have any to swap. All proceeds from the Seed Swap Table will go to The Heritage Seed Library.”

The event is on the ground floor of The Art House, so is fully accessible, and there is a gender neutral fully accessible toilet. There will be hot and cold refreshments available from the counter during the event. Attendees are requested not to bring their own food or drink.

Everyone is welcome, entry is free, but donations on the door would be much appreciated (to help with keeping The Art House’s Community Pantry open – suggested donation £3).
