The mighty Southampton City Rollers roller derby team return this weekend

by Joy McKay.

After a Covid enforced hiatus, Southampton City Rollers, Southampton’s own Roller Derby team, return to the track as they take on the Brighton Rockabillies in Haywards Heath on Saturday (March 25). This sold-out  double header event is sure to be high on action as the Brighton Rockers also take on International roller derby stars Marseille.

In case you’re not familiar with it, roller derby is a full contact sport played on an indoor track on quad roller skates. It’s the fastest growing women’s sport in the world and prides itself on being inclusive and welcoming, especially to those who may not feel they ‘fit’ in more traditional team sports.

The 14-strong roster of skaters will be supported by a bench crew and other members of the team will be attending as referees, non-skating officials and in the audience. They will also be debuting new custom made uniforms from Roller Derby City in signature team fuchsia.

Southampton City Rollers will be open for new members soon, if you’re interested in joining the team follow on Facebook for more details https://www.facebook.com/SouthamptonCityRollers
