Southampton school reunion to become annual event

Following a successful event last year, organisers of a reunion of pupils from a Southampton school are planning on making it an annual gathering.

Those who attended Southampton Grammar School for Girls, Southampton College for Girls or Hill College between 1907 and 1989 are invited to a reunion at their former educational home – Richard Taunton VI Form College on Hill Lane, Southampton, on September 30, 2023.

The first reunion took place in October last year.  As well as offering a get together, the event saw the launch a new college prize and bursary in honour of two of Southampton’s former educational leaders: Miss May Louisa Vale, Headmistress 1955-1975 and Miss Mavis Kingston, Principal 1975 to 1984.

An illustrated book was specially published, tracking the history of the Southampton Grammar School for Girls from its inception in 1907 until it became one of the world’s first VI form colleges (the only ever all girl post 16 open-access college).
