An exhibition of work by Hampshire-based photography group The Phorum is currently being shown in The Foyer at Southampton City Art Gallery.

The Foyer features exhibitions by local and emerging artists, alongside community and arts groups.

The Phorum was formed in response to requests for a meeting place which would allow photographers to be acknowledged for their work and to have it peer appraised with lively discussion.

They describe themselves as “a group of accomplished amateur photographers and ex-professional photographers.

There are no competitions. Our themes tend to be abstract concepts which allow for a broad range of interpretation and focus our ideas and observations. The main aim of the group is for our work to be seen.”

The exhibition at Southampton City Art Gallery is entitled Denizens – Friendship, Relationship, Citizenship.

It features portraits of people associated with the photographers and the local area, reflecting the National Portrait Gallery project Creative Connections.

The exhibition runs until June 24.

The group’s meetings take place on the last Thursday of every month in Nursling Village Hall SO16 0YL, and via Zoom conference.
