Alabama 3 to come to Southampton in November

South London roots-futurists Alabama 3 have announced a show in Southampton for November.

Heading to The 1865 on 30 November in support of their upcoming release ‘Cold War Classics Vol.2’, tickets for the show are on sale now.

Born at an all-night squat party during the ‘90s, the group formed when charismatic frontman and co-founder Rob Spragg started singing the lyrics to a Hank Williams song over an acid-house beat. Meanwhile, other co-founder, the late Jake Black, a diehard Jazz fan, joined in with some bebop skat stylings. On that night, the embryo of Alabama 3 was conceived.

Still adored the world over, the 1997’s inaugural smash ‘Woke Up This Morning’,  whose marriage of Howlin’ Wolf samples and trip-hop beats provided the theme music for long-running HBO series ‘The Sopranos’,  Alabama 3 have continued to explore their uniquely British absurdist twist on Americana since.

The band released their latest album — and their first following a turbulent few years that included the death of legendary songwriter Jake Black — ’Step 13’ in 2021. ‘Step 13’ landed as a reminder to throw caution to the wind and live life to the fullest. The band will release its follow-up ‘Cold War Classics Vol.2’ later this year.

Now, armed with a set full of newer tracks and trusty old favourites, the band are set to bring their fantastical sound and the ferocious energy that cemented them as one of the UK’s most beloved trip-hop acts to Southampton this autumn.
