Southampton Greenpeace: Project Climate Vote

By Southampton Greenpeace.

In their new regular column, Southampton Greenpeace will be sharing details about their campaigns and how you can get involved.

Southampton Greenpeace are a group of local volunteers who work to promote and gain support for national Greenpeace campaigns. Past campaigns have included the Warm This Winter campaign for better insulated homes across the country, the 30 by 30 campaign to get 30 percent of the world’s oceans protected by creating marine sanctuaries by 2030 and the campaign against deep sea mining. We meet online once a month and go out campaigning around Southampton usually every other weekend. We also have socials at local independent vegetarian/vegan cafes afterwards.

We are delighted to take part in Greenpeace’s latest campaign, Project Climate Vote. We need a government that’s going to take the climate crisis seriously and we need to make it clear at the next General Election that the climate crisis is a priority issue for a majority of people in the UK – and the winning political party must take our demands seriously.

That’s why, together with groups across the country, we’re having thousands of conversations with people around Southampton to recruit ‘climate voters’; people who will vote thinking about each political parties’ climate policies as a priority. We are heading out for our first canvassing weekend this weekend and we have three more weekends in the diary for 2023, which are:

  • 28th-29th October
  • 18th -19th November
  • 2nd and 3rd December

If you are interested in joining us on one of these weekends, or would like to find out more information in general about what we do and how to get involved, please email sotongreenpeace@gmail.com We hope to see you soon!
