Southampton listings 5 – 11 December

Over the last few weeks you may have detected a degree of Christmas-curmudgeonliness in the listings. Well, it turns out we’re only human after all. And if there’s anything to melt our cold heart and get us diving into the Christmas spirit with all the gusto of a Neil Ruddock two-footed tackle it’s the arrival of the big Christmas panto at The Mayflower.

This year’s serving sees Christopher Biggins, Ashley Banjo and Diversity tackle the timeless tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (pictured). The run begins on Saturday and carries on right up ‘til new year’s eve.

If you’re looking for something a little more high brow, then you might quite like the sound of the Southampton Philharmonic Choir performing Neilsen and Vaughan Williams at Southampton O2 Guildhall on Saturday night. If that’s not quite enough for you, then head back to the Guildhall again on Sunday and enjoy Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra: Roll on Christmas.

There are plenty more choices to sate your appetite for live music.

Folk-punk rabble, Skinny Lister, will be at the Engine Rooms on Friday night and multi-disciplinary artist and producer Laura Misch will be at The Joiners on Sunday.

Returning swiftly to the Christmas theme, it feels wrong to not mention that the Big FC™ himself will be at the Tudor House on Saturday and Sunday from 10am.  See – we can embrace the festive feels with the best of them!
