Vigil for Palestine taking place in Southampton on Saturday

Palestine Solidarity Campaign Southampton and Stop the War Coalition will be returning to the city centre on Saturday, January 6th, with a Vigil for Palestine, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The vigil will be held just below the Bargate, from 1pm to 2pm.

It will be quieter and more reflective than the protest marches seen in the city and offers a space for people to mourn the huge loss of life as well as to call for an end to the bombardment of Gaza.

The death toll in Gaza is now more than 22,00 people, two thirds of whom are women and children, whilst at least 57,000 have been injured. There are also several thousand people missing, buried under the rubble and presumably dead. Meanwhile, more than 90 percent of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have now been displaced within the territory.  With very little aid allowed in, Palestinians are facing severe shortages of food, water and other basic goods.
