Plant sale to benefit local charity, working to eradicate loneliness in Southampton

Plant lovers can bag some greenfingered bargains at a spring plant sale this month in aid of a charity working to eradicate loneliness in Southampton.

Communicare is holding the event on May 11 at CommuniBakes, at 21, St James Road in Shirley, with all money raised going towards helping vulnerable and isolated people in Southampton.

Fundraising and Finance Coordinator at Communicare, Emily Arbery explains: “We’re very excited to be hosting our third annual plant sale once again this year. It will take place at the community bakery, CommuniBakes, which is the commercial venture for our charity, on Saturday, May 11 from 10am until 12pm.

“People have been asked to sow extra seeds for us, take cuttings and also grow on plants and donate them on the day. We’re really looking forward to seeing what people kindly bring along for us to sell to help raise funds for the work that we do.

“We hope lots of people come to the sale on the day too. Those that do will be able to pick up a sweet or savoury treat, or two, from the bakery and enjoy tea and coffee, and sit at its pavement tables, subject to availability, too. CommuniBakes supports our work, all its profits are donated to our charity, so you can enjoy a cake, or take home a loaf, and know you’re helping people living nearby at the same time.”

Communicare, which is a friendly, neighbourhood charity, provides services that enrich the lives of isolated people in and around Southampton.

The charity is currently supporting more than 700 individuals/families through tasks including, befriending, transport for appointments and assistance with shopping. The services Communicare provides are free to users, although beneficiaries are invited to make a donation if they are able to, and Communiteers are offered expenses.

The Communicare plant sale will take place at CommuniBakes at 21, St James Road, Shirley, Southampton on Saturday, May 11 from 10am until 12pm.
