Placebo to headline Southampton Summer Sessions this June

Today Placebo have been announced as the latest headliners for the inaugural TK Maxx presents Southampton Summer Sessions, with support from Friedberg. These latest names join the already announced Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Tom Jones, Madness Paloma Faith, and Kaiser Chiefs on the growing lineup of incredible acts taking over Guildhall Square for Southampton Summer Sessions from 15 to 30 June.

Debuting in the 1990s amidst the heyday of Brit-pop and the waning influence of grunge, Placebo emerged with their androgynous style and edgy sound, echoing glam rock while blending dark alt-rock with goth and electronic elements. Their breakthrough came with hits like “Nancy Boy” from their debut album, propelling them into the spotlight. Nominated for prestigious BRIT and NME Awards, the band has garnered a dedicated following with fan-favourite anthems such as “Every You Every Me” and “The Bitter End”. In 2023, they reaffirmed their status with the release of “Placebo Live”, showcasing why their live performances remain an essential experience for fans. Southampton’s Guildhall Square will be electrified on Wednesday 26 June as Placebo delivers their signature high-octane headline performance.

All-female quartet, Friedberg, led by Anna Friedberg on vocals, guitar, and cowbells, will join Placebo. Recognised for their fusion of post-punk and alternative rock infused with pop sensibilities, their performance will be sure to bring a mix of discordant melodies and infectious energy to the day.

Tickets for the latest show go on general sale on Friday 08 March at 10 am via smmrsessions.com.
