Mayflower Theatre and MAST Mayflower Studios today announce new collaborative scheme

Mayflower Theatre and MAST Mayflower Studios announce a new collaborative scheme with resident company of MAST Mayflower Studios, Our Version Media (OVM).

The scheme will bolster the existing offering of Our Version Media’s Roving Reporters and will centre around further providing global majority voices with the opportunity to upskill in the world of content creation and show reviewing.

Our Version Media is a black led social enterprise based in Southampton and became a resident company of MAST Mayflower Studios when the studios opened in 2021. The company was founded by a former broadcast journalist with the aim to empower and amplify the voices of the region’s global majority communities.

Our Version Media upskills individuals with digital media and mobile journalism skills and Mayflower Theatre and MAST Mayflower Studios are excited to be able to offer individuals the chance to put their learnings into practice by attending press nights with already established voices and creating coverage of high-end touring musicals and plays.

Veronica Gordon, Founder and Media Skills Trainer of Our Version Media says: “We’ve been collaborating with Mayflower for over three years now and have teamed up on a number of community engagement and audience development projects, that connects our communities with theatre.

“This one particularly excites me as it’s a unique opportunity that’s especially for our trained mobile storytellers and roving reporters. OVM has taught hundreds of local people how to create, film and edit story-led videos on their mobile, and they hugely benefit from their new digital media skills, so it’s great to have this as a further development opportunity.

“On top of that Mayflower Theatre and MAST Mayflower Studios are fantastic venues with some exciting shows coming up, so the participants should have a great time whilst putting their skills into practice!”

“We are delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to our resident company, Our Version Media, to give individuals of global majority the opportunity to put their skills they have learnt with Our Version Media in Roving Reporters into practice,” adds Michael Ockwell, Chief Executive and Creative Director of Mayflower Theatre and MAST Mayflower Studios. “We are excited to see them develop further and learn from a real-world opportunity.’

The scheme began with a creator from Our Version Media attending Life of Pi on 14 May 2024.
