Southampton’s first Sapphic Cafe takes place tonight

Southampton’s Sapphic Cafe launches tonight, with it’s first ever event.

Sapphic Cafe is a social group specifically for people who identify as sapphic. The aim of the group is to provide a a dry (non alcoholic) space modelled loosely on lesbian cafe culture where people are safe to express themselves and share their love of all things sapphic.

The group was founded earlier this year, and the inaugural event takes place tonight (Wednesday, August 18) at The Art House in Southampton city centre, from 7pm to 9pm.

Group co-ordinator Gwyn Rees said: “We are open to all who consider sapphic as part of their identity. This could be lesbians, bisexuals, pansexuals, asexuals, aromantics, and other sexualities- we are explicitly trans-inclusive and non-binary inclusive. This is not a place for straight people or those who do not share our aims and values.”

The group aims to put on a series of events, beginning in Southampton, but branching out to other parts of the Solent area, offered on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis, to welcome all sapphics into a relaxing and fun social environment. Future events may include talks, crafting, movie nights and just getting to know each other.

Gwyn added about tonight’s event: “Expect a chilled evening of getting to know each other at a level that suits you (with a few ice breaking talking activities if you are feeling bold!) and also discussing what events we’d like to see in the future. You do not have to bring anything but yourself to this event. Please book a ticket to attend – as we need to make sure numbers are accurate for the venue to stay COVID-safe as possible. “

Tickets are on as a pay as you feel basis.
